Shadow Work

What is shadow work? Is shadow work a negative thing? How can I tell if I have shadow work to do? These are some of the many questions that were brought to my attention when I first got introduced to it. I didn't even know such a thing even existed. Let me tell you this was one of the toughest parts of my healing journey. I am going to share some tips and tricks on how you can tell if you have shadow work to do.

Now let's address some of these questions. What is shadow work? Shadow work involves getting in touch with the parts of yourself that you've repressed. When doing shadow work you dive into the unconscious material that shapes our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Most of the time this all stems from our childhood. For example you might have had parents that were over workers. They didnt know how to detach, they will come home and still be working, answering phone calls or emails. Sometimes they might have even had conversations about what's going on at work. Now in your adult life you find yourself doing the same exact thing, not even being conscious that you have adopted the same behavior. The trick to solving any repressed parts of yourself is surrendering and accepting the fact that you have work to do.

Is shadow work a negative thing? My answer to this is, it doesn't have to be. If you acknowledge that you may be repressing some part of yourself, all it takes is just acknowledging it. If you fail to do such a thing, you can be living an inauthentic life. You might suffer from self-identity, or even attract the wrong relationships. Your shadow work can lead you to more self-development if you look at the brighter side of things.

How can I tell If I Have Shadow work to do? Ask yourself this. Are you happy in your current career? Are you happy in your current relationships?, rather it be business or personal. Do you feel like you are currently at a crossroad, not sure in which direction to take? If you have answered yes to any one of these questions then there's work to do.

When you realize that you have shadow work to do, write down your feelings and heal them one by one. Get into the space of wanting to be your authentic self. If we fail to acknowledge that we have work to do, we will be forced to go through a dark night of the soul in which I will discuss in my next blog…

To be continued…
